Sewage spills threaten drinking water, spoil recreation, hinder economic values, and harm wildlife. River advocates across the nation are fighting the rising tide of sewage pollution.
We just got some good news from one of Rep. Russ Carnahan's Environment Legislative Aide. The Missouri Coalition for the Environment applauds Rep. Carnahan for her support of this important bill. Here's the message from the staffer:
I am pleased to inform you that Congressman Carnahan recently co-sponsored HR 2452, the Raw Sewage Overflow Community Right-to-Know Act. This legislation requires sewage treatment facilities to monitor sewage overflows and notify the public of a overflow that could endanger human health. In addition, this legislation makes monitoring and notification efforts eligible for funding under the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.
Combined sewer overflows have continued to be an issue in Congressman Carnahan's district, especially in South St. Louis County. Public notification is an important tool in addressing this issue.
Thanks again for your support and leadership Congressman Carnahan!
