Sewage spills threaten drinking water, spoil recreation, hinder economic values, and harm wildlife. River advocates across the nation are fighting the rising tide of sewage pollution.
Below are links to ongoing news stories from last week's revelation about the unreported five million gallons of sewage that spilled into San Francisco Bay. It's great to see all the attention this terrible crime is receiving, but it raises an interesting question. If EPA estimates that 860 billions gallons of sewage spills into America's waters every year - that's 172,000 times the amount of sewage that spilled in the two Bay incidents - where is the coverage, outrage and calls for reform around the national problem?
