Baja California’s Sewage Problems Have Met its Match

Mexico's sewage is getting a serious smack down!

MSNBC reported last week that Mexican wrestler - superstar "luchadore" - Hijo del Santo has teamed up with Southern California's Wildcoast (in Baja Mexico the group's name is Costasalvaje) to raise awareness amongst the residents of Tijuana and San Ignacio about the health threats caused by sewage pollution on the Baja and Southern California coast.

"Garbage and sewage from the slum tumble into the Tijuana River, which separates the border between Mexico and the United States. A Wildcoast study found that three-fourths of the people who regularly swim in the ocean near the border cities of Tijuana and San Diego have suffered some kind of health problem, including intestinal and skin diseases. Coastal contamination also threatens marine life and local vegetation on both sides of the border.

‘For me, it's a pleasure to kick off this campaign with Wildcoast and use my persona to spread the message of caring for our seas and environment to the authorities and the people,' Santo said before heading south to the village of San Ignacio."

I know from personal experience that Full Nelsons and Figure Four Leg Locks are very effective means of persuasion in the third grade but leave it to Santo to apply such tactics to fight against sewage. Viva el Santo!
