The Gift That Keeps on Smelling

Cumberland River - Nashville, TNCumberland River - Nashville, TNWhat better way to send a message to your city council that you've got a sewage problem in your front yard than to bottle the stuff up and hand it right to them. Paul Snyder of Nashville, TN did just that when he presented a mason jar of the foul slurry that he bottled from the pool of sewage that collects in his front yard. Here is Mr. Snyder's story:

"This is what I have to deal with everyday in my front yard. It's raw sewage. There's actually stuff sitting there. You can't see the pipe because there's stuff settled around the pipe - toilet paper and stuff. The odor gets real bad. You can sit there and watch it coming out of the pipe. You can actually see it coming out."

According to the Nashville Tennessean story, the city has known about such sewage problem in Snyder's neighborhood for FOUR YEARS! It wasn't until he showed up with a little gift for the city council, grabbed himself some media attention with the stunt, that he actually got a commitment out of city officials to do something about the problem.

I admire Mr. Snyder's creative approach to getting his problem solved. Sometimes all it takes is a little creativity (like our old pal Mr. Floatie running for Mayor of Victoria, British Columbia) to get the job done. We plan to unveil some pretty nifty actions in our national fight for federal sewage Right-to-Know legislation. I can't let the cat out of the toilet just yet but keep checking back with us and you'll see.
