Sewage spills threaten drinking water, spoil recreation, hinder economic values, and harm wildlife. River advocates across the nation are fighting the rising tide of sewage pollution.
Ohio State HouseHere’s a quick update on HB 235, Ohio Sewage Community Right-to-Know bill. The bill just received its first round of hearings on Wednesday, June 20th 2007. Ohio Game Fishing members Dennis Malone, Officer Brandon Smith and I gave testimony in support of the bill before the Ohio House of Representatives Economic Development and Environment Committee at the State House in Columbus Ohio. The Ohio legislature is on break for the summer, and the bill will be picked up again in Aug/Sept. At that point we hope to have a couple more proponent hearings with more supporters of this bill.
Our last meeting with theOhio EPA was quite successful, and it looks like we will be making a few minor changes to the bill which willlikely garner the support of the Ohio EPA. Feedback from themembers on the Environment Committee is mostly positive - with three Republicans and three Democrats on the committee co-sponsoring the bill.
